Table Tennis: Emmanuel Commey excited at his progress of UK training tour

Black Loopers member Emmanuel Commey says he has learnt new techniques and style of playing table tennis at his training base in the United Kingdom and believes these assets will set him up for a medal at the 2023 African Games in the country next year.

He revealed that he had also improved on his movements, hand speeds and how to block shots in his practise with top UK-based trainer, Eli Baraty, at Oxgate, London.

Commey, 28, together with national top seed, Derek Abrefa, are currently training with Eli Baraty Academy for the past three weeks during their four-month training tour ahead of the African Games.

“I can see my performance changing, my speed and swinging of the rackets have all changed, I am most grateful to Mawuko Afadzinu [Ghana Tennis Association president] for ensuring the that I get top level training head of the African Games,” Commey told the Graphic Sports via telephone from his UK base.

The 2019 MTN SWAG Table Tennis Athlete of the Year said that he was taking his training seriously and assiduously going through the regimen under the guidance of his trainer to achieve the utmost out of the tour.

“Coach Baraty is taking things thoroughly with us, we are fully focused and my mind is on achieving something for the country at the African Games,” he said.
Commey and Abrefa are expected in the country in January next year to continue with their preparations for the African Games.
