FORMER International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight titlist, Richard Commey, is close to agreeing a fight with former two-division champion Jose Pedraza at super lightweight in July.

Commey (30-4, 27 KOs) is expected to use the bout against Puerto Rican Pedraza (29-4, 14 KOs) to test himself at 140 pounds after announcing his decision to move up in weight.

The Ghanaian has been out of the ring since losing a unanimous decision to Vasyl Lomachenko in December and is looking forward to return to winning ways.

Confirming the bout as a possibility, Commey’s manager, Michael Amoo-Bediako, told the Graphic Sports that they were looking at making the fight at 140 pounds.

Mr Amoo-Bediako added that his team believed a fight between the two former lightweight champions would offer Commey a good test having moved up in weight.

“The fight is a possibility at 140 pounds and we believe it will be the real test that Commey needs in his comeback.

“We are still negotiating and yet to finalise anything but I can tell you that we are working hard to get him back in the ring,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pedraza could be making his second ring outing this year after losing to Jose Carlos Ramirez last month.
