Preko takes over as Medeama coach

Ex-Ghana international, Yaw Preko, has been appointed as coach of Ghana Premier league club, Medeama SC.

Preko who worked as a stop-gap coach of Accra Great Olympics while substantive coach, Annor Walker, was away, would be deputised by Elmina Sharks coach, Yaw Acheampong.

The 46-year-old former Under-17 assistant coach would be reuniting with Acheampong whom he played alongside during the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain.

The former Anderlecht and Accra Hearts of Oak player would be taking over from Samuel Boadu who resigned from the Tarkwa-based side to take over the Accra Hearts of Oak job.

He is expected to guide the club who are currently fourth on the league log with 26 points to finish at the top of the league with about 18 more games to play.

Preko would be heading to the job with his rich experience having worked as the assistant coach of the Under-20 national team between 2012-2013.

He has also been the assistant coach of Accra Hearts of Oak before briefly taking over as the substantive coach in 2016 and subsequently served as the assistant coach for Nigerian club Ifeanyi Ubah under Japanese coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi and subsequently elevated as the coach.

His first major test would be against Berekum Chelsea on Sunday at the Golden City Park.
