Electroland Ghana Ltd., distributors of NASCO electronic appliances, has announced a $60,000 financial package for the Black Stars for their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns.
At a ceremony in Accra yesterday, the company presented a cheque for $10,000 as the first tranche of the full amount to be paid within six months.
Mr Nour Sekloui, Managing Director of Electroland Ghana, explained that his outfit decided to respond to the President’s call on individuals with private businesses in Ghana to support the Black Stars.
He gave an assurance that his company world donate $10,000 monthly between August and January as their contribution to the team’s preparation towards the AFCON in Cameroun as well as their FIFA World Cup qualifiers which starts next month.
“As a company, we decided to heed the President’s call to support the Black Stars in their AFCON and World Cup qualifying participations.
“We agreed to donate $10,000 to the team every month for the next six months to raise our $60,000 package for the Black Stars,” he said.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of government, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Mustapha Ussif, thanked Electroland Ghana for their positive response to the call by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for corporate Ghana to support the senior natiional team as it serves as motivation for the players.
Mr Ussif took the opportunity to call on other corporate entities to come on board to support sports in general since part of the money would be used to cater for the needs of other sporting disciplines.
“We are grateful for your support and, especially, your decision to respond positively to the President’s call to support the Black Stars,” the minister said.
“I personally believe it will go a long way to cushion the team’s performance, and I want to call on other corporate bodies to emulate your kind gesture to enable the Ministry to support the other sporting disciplines.”
