King Faisal’s quest to escape relegation was given a boost when they descended at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi last Saturday to hold title chasers Kumasi Asante Kotoko to a 1-1 draw.

Faisal, who whipped Legon Cities 2-0 at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman last Monday, delivered the first blow at the quarter-hour when Zabairu Ibrahim, who distinguished himself in the match as a potent striker, pounced on Enoch Morrison’s intelligent cross to put his side ahead.

However, the Porcupine Warriors who lost 0-1 to arch rivals, Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium last week, were not ready to surrender the maximum points to Faisal to incur the wrath of their vociferous supporters who are yet to recover from their defeat to Hearts.

Kwame Peprah’s strike

Kotoko scored full marks in holding Faisal for the first half and started using long balls to counter attack their visitors who came close to increasing the lead in the 60th minute, but Faisal’s marksman, Morrison, saw his well calculated shot missing target to the relief of Kotoko.

Kumi’s equaliser

Ten minutes later, Kwame Peprah, considered one of the finest strikers in the 2020/21 football season, and named Man of the Match in Obuasi came close to add his name to the score sheet, but after displacing Kwame Baah in post for Kotoko, he saw his efforts hitting the bar.

Left off the hook, Kotoko turned the heat on Faisal after their coach brought in fresh legs. The changes yielded much dividends for the host as substitute Francis Kumi made his presence felt in the 84th minute when he out-jumped his markers to nod in a header during a melee at the vital area of Faisal to bring his side at par.
