A Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion, Joshua Clottey, says it will not be advisable for Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe to fight Mexico’s Emanuel Navarrete for a third time in his career.

Clottey described a future clash between Dogboe and Navarrete as dangerous for the Ghanaian, having previously lost twice to the Mexican hard-hitting puncher.

Dogboe, a former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) super bantamweight champion, was dethroned by Navarrete on his second title defence in December 2018 in New York, USA.

The Ghanaian opted for a rematch and lost a 12-round knockout to the Mexican five months later and moved up in weight after the bout.

However, Dogboe could face Navarrete for the third time at the featherweight division after the Mexican became the WBO featherweight titlist.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, Clottey called on Dogboe to consider fighting for other titles if he feels Navarrete is a stumbling block to his quest to become a two-division world champion.

“It is not advisable to pair Dogboe and Navarrete to fight again because it will be too dangerous for him after two consecutive defeats,” said Clottey.

“I know it is possible that they could fight again but I think he should look out for other belts if he feels Navarrete is a nemesis to him

“You don’t have to necessarily fight for the WBO featherweight belt if you think it is going to be a difficult task.”

Dogboe will mark his return to the ring when he slugs it out with Adam Lopez in Las Vegas on June 19 on the undercard of Naoya Inoue-Michael Dasmarinas world title fight.

When asked what he thinks of Dogboe’s chances against Lopez, Clottey said his compatriot would be too strong for the American fighter.

“I don’t think Dogboe will have a problem handling Lopez because he is more experienced and have the power to deal with him,” Clottey said.
