In the wake of a surge in malicious rumours following the recent extension of his contract, the Ghana Police Service has firmly refuted claims circulating on social media suggesting that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has passed away.
In an official statement, the Service clarified that the IGP is alive, in good health, and actively executing his duties as the nation’s top police officer. According to the release, the rumours are not only false but also intentionally crafted to mislead the public and create unnecessary panic.
“The attention of the Ghana Police Service has been drawn to some speculation that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is deceased. We wish to categorically state that these reports are false,” the statement read. “The IGP is alive and well and going about his duties as expected.”
The Police Service called on its officers, the families of personnel, and the general public to completely disregard the fabricated reports, assuring all that the leadership of the Service remains focused on maintaining law and order.
Additionally, the statement carried a strong warning for individuals behind what it described as “malicious, insensitive and reckless claims.” The Service reminded the public that the deliberate spread of false information is an offense under Ghanaian law and that those responsible will be identified and prosecuted.
As the IGP continues to carry out his mandate, the Ghana Police Service urged the public to remain vigilant, rely on verified sources for information, and support efforts to combat disinformation in the country.
