Vasyl Lomachenko is hopeful to beating Richard Commey on Saturday

Former unified lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko is still aiming to return to the top of the division by taking one unified titlist George Kambosos Jr after Saturday’s clash with Richard Commey.

The Ukrainian wants to concentrate on his fight with Commey at the Madison Square Garden before thinking of taking on the Australian who shocked the world by handing Teofimo Lopez his first career defeat.

Lopez was the favourite with the WBC franchise, IBF, WBA and WBO titles on the line, titles he took from the Ukrainian in October 2020 in a huge upset.

Speaking of his aims for the rest of his career, he said to Sky Sports: “Of course, for belts. It’s my goal in boxing now. Undisputed world champion, this is my motivation.

Of Kambosos, he commented. “We’ll see. Of course, I want this fight, but first of all I have a fight on December 11, and my focus is on this fight.“After this fight, I can talk about my future.”

Speaking of the upset result, Lomachenko explained: “Before the fight, I gave some chance for Kambosos, but of course I thought Lopez would win this fight.
“But it is what it is. This is boxing life.”
