Soccer Achievers Awards to acknowledge the good works of sports persons
Ghanaian footballers who have impacted in sports over the years would have the opportunity to be recognised when the maiden edition of the Soccer Achievers Awards is held.
Already nomination has been opened for deserving football personalities to pick entry forms and according to organisers the award would be presented in three categories—Individual awards, General and Special categories.
At the official launch at the La Palm hotel in Accra last Wednesday, Neil Armstrong Mortagbe, the event organising board chairman explained that the rationale was to honour sports personalities who have contributed immensely to sports in the country.
He said players who have previously been outstanding during their active career days deserves to be recongised and cited Joe Addo former Black Stars player and chairman for the occasion as one person who’s contribution had not been recognise despite being influential during his playing days.
Beneficiaries of the Soccer Achievers Awards would among others be presented directly to deserving persons such as coach of the year, referee of the year, goal of the year, youth player of the year (male and female) and goalkeeper of the year.
Mr Armstrong further noted that the general category would be to reward public entities and individuals who have made significant contribution to football in Ghana. Under this category football media personality of the year would also be awarded.
Others such as Corporate Soccer Sponsor of the Year, Soccer Administrator of the Year, Most Popular Fanbase of the Year, Football state of the Year radio, Football state of the year television, and Soccer commentator of the Year.
