Prof. Ademola Popoola of the University of Ilorin’s Department of Surgery has issued a warning, stating that a penile erection that lasts longer than 30 minutes during a sexual encounter is pointless, dangerous, and harmful to men.
Popoola raised the alarm in Ilorin during his paper presentation at the university’s 250th Inaugural Lecture, titled “That All May Pee in Peace”.
He says that “a person who has more than 30 minutes of erection should report immediately to the hospital” .
He said that in order to maintain penile erection later on, the erection needs to be stopped as quickly as possible by a qualified physician.
The specialist did note that an erect or turgid penis is necessary for satisfying intimacy, but added that an erect penis frequently breaks or fractures.
According to research, the right side of the penis ruptures more frequently than the left, he stated.
Similarly, Popoola said that during a person’s lifespan, urinating—which is meant to be enjoyable and reminiscent—may become problematic and, in certain cases, result in the person’s death if urgent assistance is not provided.
The don, who teaches at the College of Health Sciences of Unilorin’s Faculty of Clinical Sciences, has seen the several reasons why ladies have problems urinating.
He stated, “They include urethrocele, abnormal shifting of the uterus, and other uncommon causes like perforation ovarian teratoma and anteverted uterus.”
The specialist cautioned that blood in the urine should be a reason for concern and should be avoided at all costs.
This, he said, could indicate underlying illnesses that need to be investigated, and that the source of blood in urine should be found within a week or two of admission to the hospital, with a treatment deadline established.
Therefore, he demanded that the National Health Insurance Authority provide comprehensive care for patients with urological cancers.
Popoola also recommended that the federal government provide financing for studies on genitourinary issues, such as renal failure.
