An Educationist, Mrs Evelyn Faith Opoku, has encouraged both parents and teachers to ensure that children receive holistic education in school and at home to make them responsible and ready for the future.

“If we are teaching them holistically, and also concerned about their emotional, psychological well-being and social life, we would be preparing the children for the future”, she added.

Mrs Opoku was speaking at the Speech and Prize-giving Day and graduation ceremony of the Springside Montessori School, near Michel Camp in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

Two batches of pupils (2020 and 2021 batch) graduated at the ceremony which was on theme; Holistic education –a must for parents and teachers.

Mrs Opoku, who is also the Head of Santaglory International School, said in order to unleash the potential of pupils and students, teachers and parents must serve as role models, and also make their physical and mental development a top priority for their well-being.

She called on all stakeholders to play their respective roles in ensuring that children would be mentored into adulthood with their full potentials and develop their God given talents.

The Director of Springside Montessori School, Mrs Benedicta Quansah, commended  parents and staff for the immense contributions towards the growth and development of the school in spite of the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She stressed the need for strong partnership between parents and facilitators to ensure successful outcomes. “In today’s ever changing world, teaching techniques have changed. Earlier, the focus was teacher–centred, where the child had to learn things by rote and produce it verbatim on paper. Now, however, the emphasis is more child-centred and looks at education holistically.

Emphasis is now on the physical, mental, emotional and psychological well-being of the children. This new age encourages holistic development,” she said.
Awards were presented to pupils who excelled in academic and extracurricular activities during the academic year.

For the year 2020, Ms Maame Afua Oye Dadzie picked the star performer award while for the 2021 batch, Ms Kendra Elorm Attipoe emerged the overall best student.
