As part of his efforts to make the youth within his constituency self-reliant, the Member of Parliament for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, Dr John A. Kumah, has enrolled 100 youth in aquaculture to produce catfish.
In attainment of that objective, Dr Kumah has constructed four fish ponds to be used by the youth as a training centre where the youth can learn the trade.
Empowerment
The ponds are expected to produce about 50,000 catfish, estimated to rake in close to GH¢1 million every season.
At a programme to commission the fish ponds, Dr Kumah said his vision was to create a well-resourced constituency where every youth would be employed.
According to him, unemployment remained the main challenge facing all communities in the country, and he believed that when stakeholders pooled their resources together, they would be able to help address the problem.

“I want to encourage the young people in the constituency to believe that they can be the change that they seek,” he said.
He said the initiative would be replicated in other parts of the constituency to ensure that more youth benefited from it and also become employed.
Bridge
In a related development, the MP also commissioned the bridge over the Saaman River which connects Adako Jachie to Kokkobra and Okyerekrom.
The bridge collapsed over 50 years ago and all attempts to get it repaired over the years had failed.
During his campaign tour, he promised the people of the three communities to get the bridge fixed when elected and in fulfilment of the promise, he rallied his friends to raise funds to construct the age-old bridge.
