Christian Atsu joins Turkish club Hatayspor on free transfer

Former Chelsea youngster Christian Atsu has joined Turkish Süper Lig side Hatayspor on a free transfer.

Atsu, 30, joins Hatayspor on a one-year deal with an option for another year.

The signing announced today on the club’s social media handles was attended by Hatayspor Honorary President, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Dr Lütfü Savaş.

“We welcome Christian Atsu and wish him endless success with our burgundy and white jersey,” the club said in a statement.

In a post on Facebook, Atsu said he was excited for the new opportunity.

He posted: “Thank you for making me feel so welcomed! Thank you President Doç.Dr.Lütfü Savaş, Mr Mehmet Guzel and everyone at @hatayspor excited for this new opportunity!”.

He joins the Turkish side after spending the last season with Al-Raed in the Saudi Professional League.

Atsu has previously played for clubs including Everton, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Porto, Vitesse and Malaga.
