The Sports Equity Lab has hosted a specialized training clinic for selected athletic coaches in the country.
Dubbed “The Neurobiomechanics of Maximum Velocity Sprinting,” the clinic held on Thursday, April 27, 2023, aimed to educate coaches on how to help their athletes maximize their speed.
Loren Seagrave, a highly-rated and experienced athletics coach, gave a lecture to the coaches on improving athlete speed through body positioning, leg movements, and neuro-muscular control, among other techniques.
He urged coaches to adopt a hands-on approach and emphasized the importance of knowing when to apply the necessary techniques to enhance athlete talent.
Coach Seagrave commended the coaches for their active participation and predicted that the results of the training would manifest in Ghana athletics in six months.
He stressed that teaching athletes is better than coaching them and that implementing the right techniques at the right time is crucial for success.
According to Seagrave, Ghanaian athletics has great potential and could dominate the world with proper investment.
He lauded the coaches for their eagerness to learn and help their athletes succeed.
Dr Emmanuel Assasie, from the Physical Education and Sports Studies Department at the University of Ghana, described the forum as timely and crucial for the development of athletics in the country.
He emphasized the significance of the seminar for coaches who often lack exposure to the science of exercising.
Professor Yetsa Tuakli-Wosornu, the founder of the Sports Equity Lab, highlighted the importance of inclusivity in sports and noted that developing para-athletics is vital to the overall success of Ghana athletics.
