THE Ministry of Youth and Sports has given the go-ahead for a 25 per cent intake of football fans at the various stadia during league matches, marking the end of the earlier ban on fans.

According to a statement signed by the Sports Minister, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, yesterday, the easing of restrictions followed the significant progress made so far by the government in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

It noted that the Inter-Ministerial Taskforce would continue to monitor the evolving Covid-19 situation and advise accordingly as to when more spectators would be allowed to all stadia in the country.

Background
On September 20 last year, President Akufo-Addo announced a 25 per cent seating capacity for fans who wished to watch their clubs during the 2020/21 league.

That was to ensure social distancing and the observance of the other protocols in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the spike in the disease warranted a new directive from the Ministry and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) last November to ensure that league were played behind closed doors.
