CSOs call on stakeholders to commit to peaceful polls

It observed that the region was saddled with a myriad of challenges among which include diseases, conflict hotspots, unfavourable climatic conditions and poverty hence there was the need to channel energies into resolving those issues rather than causing Electoral disputes.

A statement signed and issued at Bolgatanga on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 by the Upper East Regional Coordinator of the Coalition of CSOs in Governance and Security, Mr Philip Ayamba further appealed to all Presidential and Parliamentary candidates to let their campaigns focus on issues instead of attacking personalities.

“As a deprived Region, the citizens are eager to listen to messages that will contribute to turning things around and tapping on the vast potentials of the Region for better living conditions of the inhabitants,” it stated.

The statement further pointed out that a peaceful environment to enable the region fight the above-stated enemies of the Region “was highly indispensable and should therefore be pursued vigorously by all stake holders as we get closer to December 7 and beyond”.

Election Dispute

“Should any one therefore become dissatisfied with any of the election outcomes, we humbly appeal to such people to seek redress through the use of approppriate channels as stated in our constitution,” the statement further advised.

It noted that the judicial systems in particular are accessible to all concerned persons to seek redress in case of any dissatisfaction of any election results.

The statement entreated the media to ensure that their reportage served as “an unbreakable medium that brings the citizens of Ghana together as one people with a common destiny”.

“The West African Centre for Counter-Extremism(WACCE) and the African Centre for Security and Counter-Tourism(ACSCT) in collaboration with the CSOs in Governance and Security highly appreciates the current relative peace prevailing in the country and thus campaigning for peaceful election 2020”it added.

Core mandate

The Community Self-Reliance Centre (COSEREC) is the mouth piece of the Coalition in the Upper East Region. The core mandate of the Coalition of CSOs in Governance and Security is to advocate for good governance, peaceful and secured environments throughout the country.
