The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a British national, Naomi Mbelu, for attempting to smuggle cannabis out of Ghana.

Mbelu was intercepted at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on March 22 at approximately 12:20 PM. She had arrived on Ethiopian Airlines flight 921 from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, but her journey initially began in Bangkok, Thailand.

Upon screening at the airport, NACOC officials discovered 41 sealed black polythene bags in her possession. Laboratory tests confirmed that the substances contained cannabis, with a total weight of 21.38 kilograms.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two individuals believed to be connected to Mbelu. The first, Joseph Asoa, allegedly arranged her visa on arrival and was assisting her through the airport. The second suspect, Isaac Anum Sowah, was identified as the driver who had come to pick her up.

All three suspects are currently in NACOC custody as investigations continue. The seized narcotics remain in the commission’s possession for further examination.
